Ruth Starr Rose was born in 1887 in Wisconsin. She studied at the New York Art Students League and under Master Printer, George Miller. Rose was a member of the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and the Pilot Club of Alexandria. She received numerous honors, among them the Artists for Victory Award, high honor for lithography at the New Jersey State Exposition in 1932 and the National Exhibition of the National Association of Women Artists in 1944. In addition, she won the Goodwin prize for oil painting and the Best in Show at the National Exhibition of the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors in 1937. She was four- time winner of the Kresge Award and was awarded the serigraph Print Prize at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in 1953. She exhibited widely in group shows in the United States, Europe, South America, India, Ceylon and the Near East.
