An excerpt from “The Lithographs of Peter Hurd” about the print: “A ranch in the foothills, a pickup kicking up a plume of white dust as it speeds homeward at nightfall – these are the ingredients of my most recent lithograph…..they are also the ingredients of everyday life here where we live, although the setting is from imagination and represents no specific place”.

From AAA: Peter Hurd, born in New Mexico, where he maintained a ranch throughout his life, portrayed his native land which he loved and knew all too well. Hurd studied at the Pennsylvania Academy and spent his winters in Philadelphia where he was a member of the Alliance and the Chester County artist associations. He received the first prize in landscape at the Wilmington Society of Fine Arts in 1930. At the New Mexico Military Institute, his frescos decorate the Thomas Memorial Building. Perhaps his widest acclaim came from his illustrations from “Last of the Mohicans”, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “The Story of Siegfried”. Hurd was accorded the unique honor of having two one-man shows in New York at the same time.
